Introducing SENTINEL.

Safety Electronics for Networked Tactical INtelligent Energy Layer or SENTINEL™ is an ASIL-D rated battery management system (BMS) and battery junction box (BJB) for mission critical stored energy applications. SENTINEL is the broad electronics platform that provides single pack battery management, which can be expanded to multipack control and optional add-on telematics connectivity for fleet management and over-the-air (OTA) updating.

The BMS supports up to 800 A continuous current (pulses up to 2000 A) and up to 1500 Vdc peak operating voltage.

SENTINEL™ controllers are available in 4 configurations:

  • Low-voltage (12-48 Vdc – 400A)
  • High-voltage standard (48-1500 Vdc – 400A)
  • High-voltage standard low profile (48-1500 Vdc – 400A)
  • High-voltage high-power (48-1500 Vdc – 800A).

Advanced Control.

The SENTINEL™ battery management system is built on the 4th-generation 32-bit Infineon AURIX™ TriCore microcontroller platform with a safety-certified real-time operating system (RTOS).

Advanced cell chemistry charactization and proprietary SOx algorithms enable precise control and accuracy across the full operating envelope maximizing safety and performance.

The system has advanced functionality related to contactor diagnostics and features software-defined pre-charge for rapid integration with new platforms.

Safe. Secure.

The SENTINEL™ system features heterogenous redundancy across all major safety critical measurements such as voltage, temperature, current, isolation resistance and thermal runaway detection and is designed to achieve an ASIL-D functional safety rating.

An integrated manual service disconnect (MSD) with internal-pyrofuse enables maximum safety during critical overcurrent events and easy serviceability and maintenance.

The system features an integrated hardware security module (HSM) and cybersecurity realtime module (CSRM) providing harwdare-level cryptographic acceleration for secure-boot, authenticated firmware, and tamper resistant operation.

AI Connected.

Optional external telematics hardware can provide advanced remote telemetry and secure over-the-air (OTA) update functionality for fleet management applications.

Both the master BMS and telematics module feature onboard storage for blackbox event recording of all critical system events including shock/vibration IMU data and thermal runaway monitoring and detection.

The advanced STM32MP2 microcontroller features an AI NPU accelerator supporting edge-AI compute for advanced SOx algorithm optimization and predictive analytics.
